France-Israel partnerships are not up for debate, minister says

Retailleau tells university presidents that reneging on academic cooperation is “out of the question”

Sylvie Retailleau, France’s minister for higher education and research, has told university presidents that they should allow debate on the current war in Gaza, but that partnerships with Israeli universities should not be called into question.

Her remarks, in a speech to France Universités, an organisation of university leaders, were made as student protests and campus occupations swept across France, with the Sciences Po grande école in Paris a focal point.
