Lower Saxony to host wind power research park

A wind power research park is to be built in Lower Saxony, paid for by the Land and run by the German Aerospace Centre.

It will host a variety of wind power generators. Researchers can use the park to improve existing technologies and try out generators some capable of running at several megawatts, said the aerospace centre.

“With these research facilities we want to support scientific knowledge that will help our wind industry apply its innovations worldwide,” Johanna Wanka, Lower Saxony’s science minister, said on 30 November.

Research at the park will include developing different kinds of rotary blades for windmills.

A specific site for the park has not yet been selected, but the Lower Saxony government said it is checking out several coastal areas.
