Rise in number qualifying for higher education

Nearly half of all German school-leavers in 2010 reached higher education entrance qualifications, according to a report on secondary education in Germany.

The report, issued by the government on 22 June, found that 34 per cent of school-leavers that year qualified for university and 15 per cent qualified for universities of applied science, German polytechnics. The government said that this signified an increase, as only 41 per cent of 30-35-year-olds have higher education entrance qualifications.
