Germany’s academy of sciences, Leopoldina, has called on government and academics to improve the way antibiotics research is carried out to prevent the further spread of resistant bacteria.
In a position paper on problems surrounding antibiotics research the academy said that growing bacteria resistance caused by years of antibiotics overuse was a serious challenge for humankind. The Leopoldina said that more collaboration between industry, patients, politics and academia, and between different countries, is needed to tackle the problem.
