International students choose North Rhine-Westphalia

Record numbers of international students are enrolling at higher education institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia, with more than 71,000 non-German students registered for 2013.

The largest group of international students in the state are from Turkey, according to a statement by the research ministry. Their numbers have now grown to around 11,000 due to the fact that large numbers of Turkish citizens live and work in Germany.

The second largest group of international students in North Rhine-Westphalia, around 7,000, is from China, and 3,000 each are from Austria and Russia, the research ministry said.
