Rectors’ head criticises lack of awareness about Japan

German higher education institutions need to do more to increase partnerships with Japan, according to the Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, a union of German rectors.

Horst Hippler, the president of the HRK, went to Japan last week to attend the German-Japanese Science Days in Tokyo. He warned that many German and Japanese businesses were failing to find German research partners for projects.

Hippler added that many German students and academics lacked awareness of research opportunities in Japan, despite the country’s German Innovation Award, which is funded by businesses and awarded to gifted scientists.
