Bavaria hired 435 professors last year, fewer than the previous two years but still a significant achievement, according to Wolfgang Heubisch, the Bavarian science and arts minister.
Heubisch said the number of professorial appointments, which compares with 440 in 2011 and 526 in 2010, shows that Bavaria is maintaining efforts to expand its higher education system. Bavaria has increased its research and arts budget by 6 per cent to €6 billion for 2013.
