Andreas Barner, the chairman of pharmaceutical company Boeringer Ingelheim, is in line to be the next president of the Stifterverband, an association of German research funders, it was announced on 7 February.
Arend Oetker, the outgoing president of the Stifterverband, will leave his post, which he has held since 1998, in June. After announcing his decision to leave, Oetker convened a special meeting of the Stifterverband’s council in 17 January, during which Barner was chosen as the candidate to replace him, pending an election on 14 June by the council.
