Helmholtz continues work with Alberta, despite tar sands concerns

The Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres says it is carrying on its wider research partnership with the University of Alberta in Canada, despite stopping a joint project on tar sands pollution.

Last month, Helmholtz scientists pulled out from a research project of the Helmholtz-Alberta Initiative that aimed to find solutions to deal with environmental damage caused by the tar sands industry. They cited concerns that the project could harm the institute’s reputation for independent scientific work.
