Two Bavarian universities win technical university status

The universities of applied sciences in Deggendorf and Regensburg/Amberg-Weiden can call themselves technical universities, after achieving outstanding success in their technology teaching and research, the Bavarian government has announced.

Both universities have established technology transfer centres in collaboration with industry. They have also created a PhD college for their students to study for a doctorate in cooperation with traditional universities.

The Bavarian ministry of science said in a statement that these actions should be honoured by awarding the institutions with technical university status.
