Bavarian archives go digital

Bavaria has started an initiative to digitise local archives and records of government processes.

The project, launched this month, is intended to make archive material and government documents more easily accessible to researchers and the public, according to the Bavarian research ministry. Digitisation will preserve documents and make them more easily searchable.

“By securely storing and providing documentation on important actions and decisions, the state archives will make governmental processes more understandable and create legal security,” said Ludwig Spaenle, Bavaria’s research minister.
