Rectors and politicians discuss inclusive teacher training

Teacher and lecturer training in Germany should be reformed to make education more accessible, according to rectors and education ministers.

At a conference about teacher training on 1 December, university leaders and politicians said that teachers and lecturers needed better skills to adapt their teaching to different audiences. They must learn more about different teaching strategies and how to include students from different backgrounds, the conference heard.

Education ministers from Germany’s federal states and members of the HRK, Germany’s rectors’ association, were at the conference. The aim was to develop a set of reform ideas that would make education, including university degrees, more accessible and reduce dropout rates.
