NRW announces funding for returning researchers

North Rhine-Westphalia’s research ministry is offering €3.75 million to young researchers who want to return to Germany to set up their own research teams.

In the eighth round of its programme to encourage researchers to return to NRW, launched on 15 April, the ministry is inviting people who previously carried out research in Germany but now live abroad to build up a team over five years at a North Rhine-Westphalian university of their choice.

The programme, which has brought 23 researchers back to the state since its inception, “is an important component for the promotion of young scientists early in their research career”, said Svenja Schulze, the state’s science minister.
