Baden-Württemberg has finished its preparations for the introduction of a junior professorship programme at its universities, which will eventually lead to the creation of tenure track posts.
The state’s research ministry announced on 25 June that the quality-control requirements for the programme had been finalised. This means that the legal and administrative procedures around the programme are complete, and the overall programme is ready for roll-out, the ministry said.
Baden-Württemberg is the first German federal state to create posts that would prepare academics for full tenure. Hans-Jochen Schiewer, the rector of the University of Freiburg, said the junior professorships would make tenure track positions more flexible and more attractive for the universities.
