Peter Strohschneider is to serve a second term as president of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Germany’s largest public research funder.
Strohschneider was re-elected on 1 July at the DFG’s annual meeting, held at the Ruhr University Bochum. His second term will begin on 1 January 2016.
The professor of Germanic medieval studies has been DFG president since 2013. Before that, from 2006 to 2011, he was the chairman of the Wissenschaftsrat, a council of senior researchers that advises the government, and was instrumental in implementing the first phase and preparing the second phase of the Excellence Initiative.
