Two applied research centres that will focus on excellent research at small universities are to receive support from the Baden-Württemberg government.
The so-called lighthouse centres will be based at the universities of Offenburg and Aalen, rural municipalities in the state, it was announced on 8 February.
The Aalen centre will work with local small businesses to help them bring their innovations to market and become more competitive. The Offenburg centre will focus on energy technology innovation, according to statements issued by the two universities.
