The state of Schleswig-Holstein is to invest €2 million in a three-year aquaculture research programme.
The study—announced by state economy minister Reinhard Mayer on 8 February—will be led by the Marine Aquaculture Society, in collaboration with the University of Kiel.
The funding will support projects including optimising energy use in recirculation systems and the design of multi-trophic aquaculture systems, which use by-products from one species as food and fertilizers for another.
