Volkswagen teams up with AI centre

German car manufacturer Volkswagen has become a partner of the Saarland-based Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence, the DFKI, it was announced last week.

The collaboration will allow Volkswagen to shape the centre’s research agenda and access its results, according to a statement by the Saarland’s research ministry, which oversees the centre’s activities. The decision to partner up was made after Volkswagen ran several successful research projects with DFKI scientists.

The Saarland has a history of producing parts for Germany’s car manufacturers. “Soon the Saarland will not just be exporting parts for the cars of today, it will also contribute ideas and solutions for the cars of tomorrow,” said Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, the Saarland’s ministerial president.
