Chancellor Angela Merkel has proposed the establishment of a joint research fund for strategic cooperation with China, with each country expected to contribute €4 million a year from 2020.
The two countries will use the fund, which is expected to be launched in 2018, to intensify their R&D cooperation in electrically powered vehicles and Germany’s Industry 4.0 strategy.
They are also working together on fair market access and enabling German research organisations to work in China without restrictions, Germany’s federal education ministry said on 1 June.
