Nine Helmholtz Association research centres have joined forces on a five-year project to create a flexible measuring system for Earth observation.
The system, called Modular Observation Solutions for Earth Systems, or Moses, will be used to investigate how short-term events such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall are linked to the long-term development of Earth systems and the environment, the Helmholtz Association said in a statement on 13 September.
The association will invest almost €28 million in the creation of the system, which will be coordinated by the UFZ Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research in Leipzig.
