The latest headlines in German research policy and funding, covering the conclusions of the rectors’ association’s meeting, a project on cloud security, battery research at the national space agency and a German-Israeli school for solar research.

Peter-André Alt, president of the Free University of Berlin, has been elected the next president of the HRK, Germany’s association of rectors. Alt will take over from Horst Hippler on 1 August for a three-year term. The HRK also used its latest gathering to put together a set of guidelines stating that researchers should always put the names of all their affiliated institutions on research papers. Together with the French and Polish rectors’ associations, the HRK called on the European Commission to use its next financial framework proposal on 2 May to double research and innovation funding to €160 billion and to triple funding for the Erasmus+ mobility programme to €44bn.
