A “national decade against cancer” in Germany aims to focus research activity in the field with a cash injection for clinical studies.
The initiative was launched on 29 January at the federal research ministry. As a first step, the ministry is planning to fund clinical studies on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. For this purpose, a funding pot of €62m has been opened at the ministry, the newspaper Die Zeit reported.
Further initiatives will follow, the ministry said. “Research is the most effective means against cancer,” said research minister Anja Karliczek. “Patients should benefit quickly from research results. To this end we are expanding our funding and will better network all those involved in research, care and politics.”
