Brexit blocks professorship extension at Göttingen university

The Administrative Court of Göttingen has rejected an application by a British professor to extend his employment, citing Brexit as one of the reasons for doing so.

The professor’s period of service at the University of Göttingen ended at the end of March, after which he was supposed to retire. He told Research Professional that he applied to defer his retirement by one year to finish his research.

In principle, such a deferral is possible under German law, unless there are official reasons why continued employment is not possible.
