PhD students present rules against abuse of power

Germany’s N2 network of PhD students has set out guidelines to protect doctoral candidates from abuse of power by supervisors, including harassment and bullying.

The network has published a position paper on “power abuse and conflict resolution”, which contains some concrete proposals for action. “We recognise the prevalence of power abuse and the difficulties to solve interpersonal conflicts as a structural problem of the academic system,” the paper said.
