Research minister Anja Karliczek has launched a framework for the humanities and social sciences called Understanding Society—Shaping the Future, to organise funding in the field.
Around €700 million in government funding has been earmarked for the social sciences and humanities by 2025. The framework, which sets out how this money will be spent, is divided into three specific topics, meant to address the biggest needs of the field.
The first branch of the framework will support research that could lead to decision-making and action on the most pressing issues facing German society. The goal of this funding stream will be to answer questions around achieving social cohesion, facilitating societal innovation and preserving cultural heritage.
