Government cites legal reasons in decision to cancel planned tender

Germany is to get a new vessel for marine science—but to the consternation of research centres this will not be an ice breaker.

In a statement issued last week, the research ministry said it would fund the procurement of a successor to the research vessels Poseidon, run by the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel Geomar, and Meteor, run by the University of Hamburg. Poseidon was retired from service last year.
