German chemistry publication retracts peer-reviewed article and suspends editors over essay arguing against equality
The German chemistry journal Angewandte Chemie has suspended two of its editors after being forced to retract an essay written by a professor who argued that efforts to improve diversity in chemistry were biased against men.
The article, written by Tomas Hudlicky, a professor at Brock University in Canada, was published in the June issue of the journal but retracted on 5 June. On 8 June the German Chemical Society (GDCh), which owns the journal, announced it had suspended the editors and would no longer use two international referees who reviewed the essay.
