Scientists resist inclusion in German lobby register

   

Supporters argue that scientific advice is different from lobbying, but others worry about transparency

A German science organisation has launched a petition to exempt scientists and research institutes from inclusion in the official lobby register of the German Bundestag.

According to a new law, all organisations and individuals interacting with high levels of the German government’s executive and legislative branches must be included in the register. The law is intended to improve transparency around outside influence on political decision-makers.
