Poor students need better support, analysis finds

             

German government told to improve funding and information to ensure equality in higher education

A lack of financial support and targeted information is behind Germany’s struggle to close the student wealth gap, an analysis has found.

A report published by the DZHW, the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies, lists financial hardship as the main reason why young adults from economically deprived homes are less likely to study. Another problem identified in the report is that there is a lack of information on the benefits of higher education, and little support to help with the complex application process.
