DFG promises to ‘fund, develop and shape’ German science

Position paper sets out mission and future strategy of country’s biggest research financier

The role of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) is to support, develop and shape science in Germany, according to a position paper outlining the funder’s strategic direction.

The paper was published by the country’s largest research funder to redefine its role in the German research system, coinciding with its annual general meeting. Through the position paper, the DFG sought to provide an overview of its organisational direction, said its president, Katja Becker.
