Demands voiced for more student support

Special payments welcomed, but students need long-term protection from inflation, says student union

The German Student Union (DSW) has asked the government to raise grants for poorer students permanently and in line with inflation to prevent poverty among budding academics.

Responding to the announcement of a one-off financial packet worth €200 per student to help them pay for higher energy costs this winter, the DSW warned that this effort was not enough. “This is an important step; others must follow,” said DSW secretary general Matthias Anbuhl.
