Science ministry assigns €41 million budget in bid to combat rise in resistant germs
Germany’s science ministry has announced that it will back a non-profit initiative on antibiotic-resistant bacteria with €41 million for four years, following an initial investment in 2019.
The funds are going to the Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator (Carb-X), which has been funding projects on therapeutics, vaccines and diagnostics against antibiotic-resistant bacteria worldwide since 2016. Carb-X is based at Boston University in the United States, and is researching methods to combat antibiotic resistance, where germs become immune to medicines designed to treat them.
