Advisory body emphasises need to main high-quality teaching in Germany by not axing posts
Politicians must resist the temptation to make “shortsighted cuts” to jobs in higher education as a response to declining student numbers, German Science and Humanities Council (WR) chair Wolfgang Wick has urged.
The government advisory body predicts that the number of new students will stagnate from around 2027 onwards. But the picture is complicated by declines in some regions and subjects versus growth in others, Wick said.
