DFG wants more funding for nutrition research

More resources should be devoted to ensuring food is safe and sustainable, says German funder

A policy paper from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Germany’s largest public research funder, has recommended increasing support for studies on food and nutrition, with assigned universities taking a decisive role.

Across the globe, social challenges relating to food and nutrition have become increasingly obvious. “Food and nutrition research in Germany is now faced with the task of scientifically supporting and shaping these challenges and the associated transformation of the food supply,” the DFG statement said.
