Germany outlines plans for nuclear fusion plant by 2040

Research minister unveils funding scheme to help ensure the “impossible becomes possible”

The German government is committed to realising the potential of nuclear fusion and has launched a new funding programme, Fusion 2040: Research on the way to a fusion power plant, aimed at creating the country’s first fusion power plant by 2040.  

Research minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger announced the nuclear fusion funding programme last week, explaining that the project will employ the same processes that generate the energy produced by the sun.
