Geoghegan-Quinn says farewell to Commission

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, research commissioner from 2010-2014, has highlighted the importance of the Innovation Union on her last day in the job.

In her final speech at the Directorate-General for research and innovation, Geoghegan-Quinn reflected on the changes that occurred in research and innovation during her time as commissioner. She said the Innovation Union strategy, which aims to generate growth and jobs, was the driving force for her actions in the past 5 years.

The Irish commissioner, who is to be replaced by Portugal’s Carlos Moedas from next week, said the European Commission has delivered on all its promises, most importantly, the successful roll-out of the Horizon 2020 programme.
