Young academy slams diversion of Horizon 2020 funds

A proposal to channel Horizon 2020 money towards Juncker’s investment fund threatens Europe’s research competitiveness, the Young Academy of Europe has said.

The president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, announced on 26 November that he wants to divert €2.7 billion from Horizon 2020 towards his investment package to support jobs and economic growth. As of 3 December, it was still unclear which precise funding line of Horizon 2020 the money would come from.

According to the YAE, a membership group for early-career researchers, this move would obstruct the careers of scientists.
