Funding pledge for cultural heritage

Carlos Moedas, the commissioner for research, science and innovation, has promised more than €100 million in funding from Horizon 2020 to support cultural heritage research in the next two years.

The funding commitment, which will largely benefit anthropologists, archaeologists and curators, was announced at the EU prizes for Cultural Heritage awards ceremony, which took place in Oslo on 11 June.

The pledge comes following recommendations for increased spending in heritage research in an expert-group report called Getting cultural heritage to work for Europe. This report is due to be formally presented to Moedas on 19 June, but was published in April 2015.
