ICT spend up sharply since FP7

A European Commission report on Europe’s Digital Agenda shows that funding for Information and Communications Technology projects in Horizon 2020 is significantly more than in Framework 7.

The report, published on 18 June, said that €1.55 billion was spent on ICT projects in the first year of Horizon 2020, an increase of €470 million from the average spend on ICT in FP7.

Funding going to businesses significantly increased – with businesses accounting for 42 per cent of participants and 41 per cent of the budget – up from 33 and 35 per cent respectively in FP7. The research areas, which received the most funding, were ‘Future Networks and Internet’ and ‘Nanosystems’.
