A group of 23 industry groups and research and technology organisations has issued a joint declaration calling for an “ambitious” and better-funded Framework 9.
To build on the success of Horizon 2020, the EU must “significantly” increase the overall budget of Framework 9, according to the declaration, which was published today. Its signatories included the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations and the industry groups European Aluminium, Food Drink Europe and the European Council for Automotive R&D.
It is essential that Framework 9 strengthens EU industrial leadership to “guarantee sustainable application and implementation” of European research, the declaration said. Grants to incentivise all actors, including companies, should be continued, it stated, with an even distribution between three “well-balanced” pillars—like with the basic research, applied research and challenge-based pillars of Horizon 2020.
