Moedas: ‘We won’t mess with basic research’

Funding for basic research will not be affected by the dramatic changes planned for the next Framework programme, the research commissioner Carlos Moedas has said.

Moedas told the European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee on 21 June that Horizon 2020’s support for basic research, as well as some of its support for industry, will not change in Framework 9.

“When things work, we should not change it,” he said. “We’re doing the best job in terms of fundamental research, we should not touch it—we should increase it but not touch it. The work we’re doing in terms of industry and partnerships, we should not touch it.”
