Framework programme impact indicators proposed

Indicators including the number of internationally co-authored papers and cooperation between public and private organisations should be used to judge the value of participating in the Framework programme, a report has recommended.

The European Research Area and Innovation Committee published a report on 4 July setting out a proposed template for assessing the impact of Framework programme participation on individual member states. It is intended to help national governments tailor their support strategies to improve their performance.

The impact of participation on individual member states differs depending on their particular R&D systems and their level of economic competitiveness, the report said. Nevertheless, all member states have certain aims in common, such as generating economic growth, improving their international collaboration and upgrading their technological abilities.
