Women were more successful than ever in the European Research Council’s latest funding round, according to ERC statistics.
The funder announced the recipients of its latest round of Starting Grants, worth a total of €605 million, on 6 September. Of the 406 winners, who will each receive up to €1.5 million to set up research teams, 164—or 40 per cent—were women.
Jean-Pierre Bourguignon, the ERC’s president, said that this was the highest proportion of female winners in the funder’s history, and that the call attracted more applications from female researchers than ever before. He was “delighted” by the data, he said.
