ERC extends welcome to Japanese researchers

The EU’s flagship science funder the European Research Council is giving more Japanese researchers the chance to temporarily join European teams that have won ERC funding.

Researchers with funding from the Japan Science and Technology Agency will be able to temporarily join ERC-funded teams under an agreement signed on 9 October. The deal was signed off by the European Commission’s director-general for research and innovation Jean-Eric Paquet and JST president Michinari Hamaguchi during a visit by EU delegates to Kyoto.

“Europe is open to the world, not least when it comes to research and innovation,” Paquet said in a statement. “Top science is an international enterprise by nature which is why I am thrilled about this new initiative—a win-win for Europe and Japan.”
