Europe’s research commissioner Carlos Moedas has outlined the criteria that will be used to decide which industrial partnerships will be continued in the next R&D Framework programme.
For research partnerships to be continued in Horizon Europe, the successor programme to Horizon 2020, they must support a carbon-neutral economy, merge the digital and physical worlds and be open to new entrants, Moedas said.
The European Commission previously said that its myriad industrial research partnerships must be “rationalised”. At an event run by the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations in Brussels on 16 October, Moedas said the partnerships that “really make sense” and “move us to the next level” would continue.
