The number of applications to the latest round of the European Research Council’s Starting Grants scheme fell by 2 per cent on the previous call, the funder has announced.
The ERC said on 30 October that it received 3,106 applications for its 2019 Starting Grants call, which closed in October. The applications have yet to be evaluated, with the winners due to be announced in summer 2019.
The most popular thematic category for applicants was physical sciences and engineering, which received 1,363 applications. Life sciences received 867, and social sciences and humanities 876.
