The EU’s next R&D funding programme might radically overhaul support for industry and be more open to non-EU countries, a document apparently leaked from the European Commission suggests.
The undated document appears to be a draft Commission impact assessment for the EU’s R&D Framework programme and was published by the news website Politico. Research Europe has not been able to verify its origin and the Commission did not respond to a request for comment, as is usual for leaked documents.
The document says that the three-pillar structure of the current Framework programme Horizon 2020—which focuses on excellent science, industrial leadership and societal challenges—should be kept in Framework 9 but redesigned.
