ERC to seek broader range of applicants

The European Research Council’s new year’s resolution is to try and encourage more applications from women and researchers based outside the EU’s older 15 member states.

In a communications strategy for 2019, published on 8 January, the ERC said it plans to increase its focus on attracting applications from three groups of researchers who may still lack awareness about its range of funding opportunities.

These groups are: female researchers; researchers from countries that have lower application rates or that win fewer ERC grants, in particular those from the EU’s newer 13 member states; and researchers in the rest of the world “who have the right profile to apply for ERC funding”.
