Presidency plows ahead on cuts despite research outcry

Proposal to cut Horizon Europe budget moves ahead amid objections from Parliament and R&D sector

The Finnish presidency has maintained its proposal to slim down the European Union’s next R&D programme ahead of a crunch budget meeting of the Council of the EU, despite concerns from the research world, the European Commission and the European Parliament.

Tytti Tuppurainen, Finland’s minister for European affairs, defended its decision at a 10 December meeting of the EU’s General Affairs Council ahead of the full Council debate on 12 December.
