MEPs getting desperate over Horizon Europe impasse

The European Parliament has pleaded with national representatives in the Council of the EU to compromise over the setup of the bloc’s 2021-27 R&D programme in order to avoid severe delays.

Representatives of the Parliament and the Council met in their fourth round of trilogue negotiations over Horizon Europe on 7 March. Shortly afterwards, the Parliament published a press release urging the Council to compromise so as “not to jeopardise important EU research projects”.

“The European Parliament today put forward a constructive compromise package in order to reach an agreement. The ball is now in the court of the Council to take the necessary steps so we can finalise the deal next week,” it said.
